Would it be possible to add a step feature (with a config to turn it on and off) in the runner so that I can read the verbose output?

That would be a pretty cool feature for the game! We won’t be able to add it soon, but you are welcome to have a look at the source code and even submit pull requests if you are up for a challenge.
